Family coat of arms of those of Hompesch

Hompesch is the name of an old Jülich'sch-Bergisch or Lower Rhine noble family .

history

Anton Fahne led a Sibido Hompesch, mentioned in 1166, from the retinue of Archbishop of Cologne Rainald von Dassel as the first representative of the noble family. A speculation, since no genealogical connection to the noble family is documented.

According to Wolfgang Löhr , the trunk series begins in 1303 with a knight Gottfried . His son was a Werner . Ernst von Oidtman, on the other hand, started the sex with Werner in 1333.

An important member of the family was Heinrich II von Hompesch (approx. 1448–1501). He was in the service of Duke Wilhelm IV of Jülich-Berg . Heinrich II bought the Geldrian fiefdom Wickrath from Emperor Maximilian I and had the Emperor declare it to be an imperial rule.

The noble family, which provided generals and ministers from the Netherlands to Bavaria as well as the last Grand Master of the Order of Malta , ceased to exist in the male line in October 1914 with the death of Paul von Hompesch-Bollheim , after the death of the German Reichstag representative Alfred Polycarp von Hompesch (1826 –1909) the Hompesch-Rurich branch had expired.
