Adam Adrian Ludwig Graf von Hompesch (* 1678 ; † January 6, 1733 at Hemmersbach Castle ) was a Prussian - Dutch general .

family

Adam Adrian Ludwig was a member of the Count Hompesch and son of Johann Dietrich von Hompesch zu Bollheim and Rurich and his wife Anna Louisa, born von Ketzgen zu Gerishoven. His brother, who only survived him by a few days, Count Reinhardt Vincent von Hompesch (1660–1733) was a general in the Dutch service. Adam Adrian Ludwig was childless with Charlotta von Vercken (1676-1732), heiress of Hemmersbach Castle, married.

Career

Hompesch entered the Dutch service as a captain on January 1, 1698 . A year later, on February 11, 1699, he was confirmed as Lieutenant-Colonel in the Infantry Regiment Kurprinz von Brandenburg . From 1702 to 1713 he took part in the war against France , in particular in the battles of Oudenaarde and Malplaquet . On March 24, 1703, Hompesch was promoted to colonel commandant of the regiment and on January 1, 1709 to the regiment's brigadier . He became governor of Namur in 1714 . In 1721 he was listed as major general in the Prussian army . On March 11, 1727, Hompesch was Dutch Lieutenant General , but on November 18 of the same year he was again Commander-in-Chief of the "Crown Prince of Prussia" regiment.

Hompesch was close friends with the future Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm I from 1706/1709 . The correspondence between both gentlemen was characterized by a special cordiality. Hompesch also took lively sympathy for the king's rift with Crown Prince Friedrich II . By marriage he was hereditary lord of Hemmersbach and Sindorf .
