Johann Sigismund von der Heyden

Johann Sigismund Freiherr von der Heyden (born May 2, 1656 in Hovestadt , † January 29, 1730 in Wesel ) was the Prussian infantry general , governor of Wesel and lord of Ootmarsum .

Life

Johann Sigismund was the son of Lieutenant Colonel Gottfried von Heyden († January 25, 1670), Lord of Burg Schönrath and Börke, and his wife Odilia, born von Kettler († February 15, 1670). He is not to be confused with Johann Siegmund von Heyden .

Military career

Heyden became Knight of St. John on September 5, 1679 . On February 8, 1689 he became a colonel in the "Alt-Holstein" regiment and took part in the battles at Fleurus , Neerwind and Steenkerke in 1689/97 during the War of the Palatinate Succession . Promoted to major general on July 17, 1693 during the war , Heyden became head of a free company in 1697. He led this in the 1702/13 campaign against France in the sieges of Bonn and Kaiserswerth and in the battle of Malplaquet .

In 1714 Heyden became chief of the "Trossel" regiment on foot . On May 25, 1715 he was appointed General of the Infantry and in the same year he was made Knight of the Order of the Black Eagle .

From 1719 he was also governor of Wesel, where he died in 1730. In 1713 he also received homage from the council of the new Prussian province of Geldern.

Heyden was married to Maria Louise Freiin von Diepenbrock (born August 29, 1671, † August 1750) since September 19, 1692. The couple had the following children:
