Nagel is the name of a Westphalian noble family from the Ravensberg nobility , which in the 16th century to the Rhineland and in the Netherlands spread.

history

The family first appears in a document in 1242 with Conradus Nagel and begins its reliable line of tribe with the knight Eggert Nagel , who appears in a document as a Count of Ravensberg ministerial in the years 1292-1300 .

Ravensberg line

In the middle of the 15th century, Duke Gerhard von Berg , who was also Count von Ravensberg at the time, made the Knight of Nagel bailiff of Ravensberg, which consisted of the parishes of Borgholzhausen, Halle and Versmold. The Ritter von Nagel belonged to the ministerial nobility of the County of Ravensberg . Their headquarters are at Königsbrück Castle in Melle.

Geldern line

In 1539 Joost von Nagel married Anna von Keppel, heiress to Ampsen in Geldern. This is how he founded the Dutch van Nagell van Ampsen line

Ascheberg line

Hermann Nagel "zu Königsbrügge" and Anna Schmiesing zu Itlingen in Ascheberg. With that he took over the Itlingen Castle and founded the line from Nagel to Ittlingen . While the older line at Königsbrück died out soon afterwards, the younger line at Ittlingen planted the family to Vornholz, Loburg etc. Georg or Jörg Nagel von Ittlingen marries Apolina von Wendt from Haus Betzen (von Schlon called Tribbe). Their son Adolf von Nagel zu Ittlingen becomes the progenitor of the Ostbevern line. House Itlingen is still owned by the Barons von Nagel.

Ostbevern line

In 1651 a brother-in-law of Droste zu Senden, Adolf von Nagel, owner of Loburg Castle in Ostbevern , becomes . On April 14, 1649, Adolf von Nagel zu Ittlingen married Elisabeth Anna Droste zu Loburg (daughter of Joachim Droste zu Loburg). Their first son Georg Joachim marries Magaretha Adelheid Dorothea von Eerde († 1724). Their son, Johann Caspar Friedrich von Nagel zu Loburg, married Elisabeth Bernhardina Theodora von Valcke in 1716, previously canons of Nottuln Abbey . The younger son Heidenreich Adolf, canon of Münster and Osnabrück, provost of St. Mauritz and Münster court chamber president inherits Loburg Castle after the death of Johann Caspar in 1732. The older branch of Nagel zu Loburg dies with him in 1748.

Adolf's second son Wilhelm Franz von Nagel zu Loburg married Catharina Charlotte von Köth zu Wanscheid on August 25, 1695 (daughter of Johann Wilhelm Köth von Wanscheid and Clara Elisabeth von Cronberg). Their son Josef Marsil Wilhelm Xaver von Nagel zur Loburg married Anna Adolphine von Nagel zu Herl on June 4, 1747, who was previously canon at Nottuln Abbey. He inherits Loburg from Adolf Heidenreich and has a new castle built there under Johann Conrad Schlaun . His son Clemens August Theodor Josef von Nagel zur Loburg (married to Anna Clementine Wilhelmine von Heereman zu Zuydtwyck since 1780 ) had to cede the castle to Friedrich Clemens von Elverfeldt zu Dahlhausen and Steinhausen at a foreclosure auction in 1785 , after the family in Was bankrupt.

Ostenfelde line

In 1656 Dietrich Hermann von Nagel acquired the Haus Vornholz property . In 1675 he destroyed the Nienburg on the orders of Prince-Bishop Christoph Bernhard von Galen and arrested its owner. In 1697, Christoph Bernhard von Nagel acquired the land in Nienburg. Due to the marriage of Hermann Adolf von Nagel to Johanne Elisabeth von Doornick, the heiress of Haus Wohnung , in 1765, the family is now called von Nagel-Doornick and their descendants still live at the moated castle Vornholz.

Hünxe line

In 1805, the Dutch Colonel and Baron von Nagell acquired Gartrop Castle by marrying Countess Constanze Hermine Elisabeth von Quadt and Hüchtenbruck , thus establishing the line in Hünxe . In 1993 Egbert Freiherr von Nagell sold Gartrop Castle.
