Georg Levin von Nagel

Georg Levin von Nagel zu Vornholz (born May 10, 1658 at Haus Vornholz , † November 27, 1723 in Vechta ) was an officer in various armies and the Land Komtur of the Teutonic Order in Westphalia .

He came from the nobility of the Nagel family and was the son of the Münster general and Drosten Dietrich Hermann von Nagel zu Vornholz and his mother Margaretha Magdalena (née Schilder zu Himminghausen).

In 1679 he entered the Teutonic Order. He was also a captain in the body regiment of Colonel von Plettenberg in the prince-bishopric of Paderborn . From 1680 he was a company commander in Warendorf in the Principality of Münster . In 1684 he became a sergeant in the Corfey Regiment. Since 1688 he was in command and in that year challenged Johann Bernhard Freiherr von Schenking to Bevern and Asbeck to a duel. Between 1689 and 1697 he took part in the Palatinate War of Succession . In 1690 he was made lieutenant colonel. Since 1692 he was Komtur der Kommende Brackel of the German Order. From 1695 he was Komtur von Malenburg and 1705 von Welheim . In 1701 he became head of the regiment. Between 1704 and 1723, von Nagel was in the Dutch service and fought in the War of the Spanish Succession . At times he was governor. Since 1713 he was the Landkomtur of the Teutonic Order of the Westphalia Ballei, based in Mülheim . Most recently he was major general of the troops of the duchy of Münster, owner of the regiment and body company of Nagel and governor in Vechta .
