Life

origin

Konrad Heinrich was the son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel Konrad von der Groeben (1645-1712), heir to Quossen and his wife Luise Juliane Antoinette von der Groeben from the Schmargendorf family.

Military career

Groeben was initially a page with Elector Friedrich III. He entered Prussian service in 1700 and took part as an ensign , later as a second lieutenant in the infantry regiment "von Anhalt-Zerbst" during the War of the Spanish Succession in the battles at Oudenaarde and Malplaquet as well as in the sieges of Kaiserswerth and Lille . On July 22, 1710 he was promoted to captain . In 1715 he was as such in the regiment of King Friedrich Wilhelm I. On August 15, 1722 he came as a lieutenant colonel in the infantry regiment "von Dönhoff" . In the following year, Groeben was commander of the newly formed fusilier regiment "von Bardeleben" on August 14, 1723 and promoted to colonel on September 1, 1730 with a patent from August 19, 1728 .

Groeben also enjoyed the trust of the later King Friedrich II and lived in his Rheinsberg Castle . On September 7, 1740, the king appointed him chief of the "von Glaubitz" infantry regiment. On June 5, 1741, he became major general with a patent from May 30, 1741. With his regiment, Groeben took part in the Battle of Chotusitz in the First Silesian War and received the order Pour le Mérite . From July 22, 1742 to July 6, 1743 he was also in command of Neisse and then received orders to march with his regiment to the quarters in East Prussia . Due to his poor health, which Groeben had already asked in vain for his resignation in 1733, he was granted a vacation in June 1744 and on July 2, 1744 he was dismissed. He retired to his Arnstein estate, where he died on May 15, 1746.

family

Groeben married Charlotte Luise von Beneckendorff in 1715 († April 26, 1726). After her death, he married Johanna Charlotte Luise Christiane Freiin von der Heyden (born September 15, 1705, † April 7, 1792) in Wesel on December 21, 1727 .
