history

The first documentary evidence was a sales deed from January 1248, in which Egebrecht and Wilhelm von Rurich were mentioned. A shard of a footshell found a little to the west of the place from around AD 600 could indicate that the place is already much older. Since the Middle Ages, Rurich has belonged to the judicial district of Körrenzig in the Duchy of Jülich . From 1794 to 1814 the Rhineland was occupied by France. During this period in 1797 Rurich was assigned to the newly formed municipality of Körrenzig in the canton of Linnich , three years later the Mairie (mayor's office) Körrenzig was formed. After the French withdrew in 1815, Rurich became Prussian . Between 1816 and 1936 Rurich belonged to the mayor's office and from 1928 to the office of Körrenzig in the district of Erkelenz . On April 1, 1936, the office of Körrenzig was divided between the districts of Erkelenz and Jülich. Rurich remained as the only municipality in the district of Erkelenz and was incorporated into the Baal office. Rurich has belonged to the city of Hückelhoven since January 1st, 1972 . The legal basis for the incorporation was the law on the reorganization of the communities and districts of the reorganization area Aachen of December 14, 1971, in short Aachen law .

religion

The majority of the population is Catholic. The place was for centuries in the parish of Körrenzig. A church was built from 1868 to 1872. In 1888 the Rurich branch was separated from Körrenzig and made a parish. Today the parishes of Brachelen , Hilfarth and Rurich form a community.
