history

Rurich has always belonged to the parish of Körrenzig and for a long time did not have its own church. Only with the construction of today's church in the 1860s did Rurich get his own church. Even after the church was built, Rurich initially remained a subsidiary of Körrenzig, but on September 20, 1888, it became an independent parish .

Building history

Today's parish church is Rurich's first church and was built between 1868 and 1873 according to plans by the architect August Carl Lange . The first groundbreaking was on March 19, 1868. The new church could not be completed until 1873, and on October 15, 1873 , it was assigned. The church consecration and consecration did not take place until June 10, 1894. The church was made possible by the owners of Schloss Rurich , who donated the building site, and the owners of Gut Kippingen, who were responsible for the maintenance of the pastor.

During the Second World War , the Sacred Heart Church was damaged by grenades. The repair of the damage lasted until 1948.

Building description

The Herz-Jesu-Kirche is a three-aisled and four-bay hall church in neo-Gothic styles . To the east of the nave is the single-bay, three-sided choir . The west gable is structured by buttresses and a blind facade above the main portal. A small octagonal roof turret rises above the west gable . The interior is spanned by a ribbed vault, which rests on slender round columns. The church does not have a bell tower.

Furnishing

Mary Help Altar

In the interior, most of the neo-Gothic furnishings from the second half of the 19th century have been preserved. These include the wooden high altar in the choir, which was made in the workshop of Louis Kocherols in Antwerp in 1871 , the two wooden side altars in the side aisles, which were made according to plans by government architect Julius Busch from Neuss in 1886, and a confessional in the south Side aisle, a Maria-Hilf altar under the organ gallery and eight brass lights from around 1900 in the arcades to the aisles. Also worth mentioning is the organ , which is the work of Michael Dautzenberg's organ building workshop in Linnich and was made there in 1873. The stained glass windows are works by Will Völker from 1964.
