Schaufenberg (Hückelhoven)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Schaufenberg is a district of the city of Hückelhoven , district of Heinsberg in North Rhine-Westphalia . Schaufenberg used to belong to the parish and parish of Ratheim .

Before the Sophia-Jacoba coal mine opened , Schaufenberg was hardly known and insignificant. Around 1910 Schaufenberg had just 108 inhabitants. Due to the coal mine Sophia-Jacoba and the associated immigration of workers, the small town gained in importance and the population increased.

The colliery was closed in 1997. There are a few shops, but Schaufenberg is mostly only suitable for living. The place is popular due to its convenient location and proximity to the cities of Hückelhoven, Erkelenz and Heinsberg .

Infrastructure and economy

traffic

A railway line, the Jülich – Dalheim line , ran between 1911 and 1980 from Baal via Hückelhoven, Ratheim and Wassenberg to Dalheim . After the cessation of passenger traffic, it only served the goods traffic of the Sophia-Jacoba colliery between Ratheim and Baal, the tracks to Wassenberg were dismantled. Until the cessation of passenger traffic on September 27, 1980, the Sophia-Jacoba stop was in the immediate vicinity, between the places Schaufenberg and Millich .

In its 2013 target concept, the Aachener Verkehrsverbund plans to reactivate the route (Wassenberg -) Ratheim - Baal for passenger traffic.
