Badge of rank General, Austria-Hungary

Cavalry general was a military rank in some European and overseas armies in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

In the German states of Prussia , Bavaria , Württemberg and Saxony , as well as Austria-Hungary , Great Britain , Russia , Spain and Japan , there were four general ranks: in ascending order major general , lieutenant general , cavalry / infantry / artillery general and colonel general . There was occasional about it - so z. B. in the German Wehrmacht - also a field marshal , in some countries called field marshal or marshal .

The general of the cavalry (- infantry , - artillery ) was usually entrusted with the command of an army corps ( commanding general ) or an equal position.
