Walther von Jagow

Walther von Jagow (born August 19, 1867 in Perleberg , † March 27, 1928 in Potsdam ) was a German cavalry general .

Life

Walther von Jagow came from the Altmark noble family of Jagow and was the youngest son of Julius von Jagow .

On March 18, 1887, he joined the Hussar Regiment “von Zieten” (Brandenburgisches) No. 3 as a flag junior . There he was on 19 September in 1888 second lieutenant , and on 27 January 1897, Lieutenant promoted. As such, Jagow was appointed as escadron chief from June 12, 1901 and at the same time promoted to Rittmeister . From July 25, 1904 to October 17, 1909 he acted as a teacher at the Military Riding Institute in Hanover and then as adjutant of the III. Army inspection . It was here that he was promoted to major on April 21, 1911 . Jagow came on April 18, 1913 to the staff of the Dragoon Regiment "Freiherr von Manteuffel" (Rheinisches) No. 5 and was appointed commander of the Reserve Dragoon Regiment No. 7 with the outbreak of the First World War .

With this he was used on the Western Front for the first time in the battles at Neufchâteau and Longwy . Jagow was appointed commander of his regular regiment on January 15, 1915, was still in action on the Western Front and then came with his unit to the Eastern Front in September 1915 . There he took part in the campaign against Serbia and was transferred back to the Western Front after the fighting was over. As a lieutenant colonel (since June 6, 1916), he took over the Reserve Infantry Regiment No. 16 on January 15, 1918 and then the Cavalry Rifle Command 30 on September 7. In this position, Jagow was promoted on September 20, 1918 to the colonel .

After the end of the war, Jagow was again commander of Hussar Regiment No. 3 on December 18, 1918, took over the 11th Cavalry Regiment on May 1, 1919 and then the 16th Cavalry Regiment in Kassel on May 1, 1920 . On June 1, 1922, he was transferred to the staff of Infantry Leader II in Stettin . After his promotion to major general on January 1, 1923, he was appointed Infantry Leader II one month later. However, he only retained this position for a short time, was relieved three months later and became commander of the 1st Cavalry Division in Frankfurt (Oder) appointed. As such, he was promoted to lieutenant general on April 1, 1925 . Jagow was relieved of his post on April 30, 1927 while being promoted to General of the Cavalry, retired from active service.

Jagow was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .
