Maximilian von Poseck

Maximilian von Poseck (born October 1, 1865 in Rastatt , † November 18, 1946 in Berge ) was a German cavalry general in the Reichswehr .

origin

His parents were the Prussian major Günther Theodor Gustav Alexander von Poseck (born December 15, 1820 - † February 7, 1888) and his wife Mary Harvey Boys (* June 8, 1825 - † June 26, 1885).

Life

After visiting the cadet school on April 14, 1885, Poseck joined the 1st Badische Leib-Dragoons Regiment No. 20 of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant . As Rittmeister he was u. a. 1903 Chief of the 5th Squadron in the Westphalian Dragoon Regiment No. 7 in Saarbrücken . On January 27, 1905, Poseck was promoted to major and as such he was adjutant to the General Inspectorate of the Cavalry and later Chief of Staff. When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on January 27, 1912, Poseck returned to service and became commander of the 1st Brandenburg Dragoons Regiment No. 2 in Schwedt / Oder . He retained this position until the outbreak of World War I and was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1914 .

At the beginning of the war he became Chief of the General Staff of the Higher Cavalry Command No. 2 , with which Poseck was deployed on the Western Front . After the dissolution of the association was active in the same function at the Higher Cavalry Command No. 1 on the Eastern Front . From January 21, 1918 Poseck acted as commander of the Guard Replacement Division , which he u. a. commanded during the German spring offensive .

After the end of the war, Poseck led the association back home and was then accepted into the Reichswehr. With the promotion to lieutenant general on October 1, 1920 he became inspector of the cavalry (In 3) in the Reichswehr Ministry . In this function, he was promoted to General of the Cavalry on January 1, 1925. On September 30, 1926, Poseck was relieved of his post and retired.

In 1933 he became president of the Reich Association for Breeding and Testing of German Warmbloods, which was brought into line. Posek was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .

family

He married Natalie Brunner on October 12, 1889 (born October 29, 1866, † August 28, 1897). The couple had several children:

  • Günther Adolf Theodor (born September 15, 1890)
  • Mary Auguste Adolfine Elisabeth (born February 18, 1892)
  • Max Adolf Heinrich (born August 26, 1897 - † August 26, 1897)

After the death of his first wife, he married Adolfine Brunner on July 5, 1899 (* July 5, 1870). The couple had a daughter:

  • Magarethe Luise (born March 21, 1902)
