Georg Ludwig von Dalwig (born December 26, 1725 in Silkerode , † September 27, 1796 in Ratibor ) was a Prussian cavalry general , chief of the cuirassier regiment No. 12 and knight of the Pour le Mérite and the Order of the Black Eagle .

Life

Georg Ludwig's father was the Hessian Lieutenant General Rabe Ludwig von Dalwigk , his mother Elisabeth Franziska Sophie, born von Bobenhausen called Mernolfs, who at the time of birth was still married to Lieutenant Johann Friedrich von Büssing ( Bissing ), from whom she later divorced . Their son was legitimized by Landgrave Wilhelm VIII of Hessen-Kassel at the instigation of the father . His descendants bear the title of baron with the name Dalwig (confirmation by the Royal Prussian Herald Office 1881).

Georg Ludwig von Dalwig was baptized on December 31, 1725. His place of birth Silkerode was the estate of his godfather Ludwig von Minnigerode , who was married to a sister of his mother - Sibilla Catharina.

The boy grew up with his father on Gut Campf in today's Dalwigsthal (Kr. Waldeck ), whom he also accompanied in his garrisons (including Hessisch Oldendorf on the Weser, Kassel and Ziegenhain ). When he was ten years old, his father put him in a cadet institution. In 1740 Georg Ludwig joined the Prussian cuirassier regiment "Margrave Friedrich" No. 5 in Angermünde , immediately took part in the 1st Silesian War (1740–42) and took part in the decisive battle of Mollwitz and the sieges of Brieg and Neisse . In the 2nd Silesian War he took part in all battles.

During the Seven Years' War he was involved in the battles near Lobositz , Prague , Liegnitz and Torgau , as well as in the battles near Jauer , Skalitz , Saalfeld and Storchnest. He was wounded several times. In the battle of Torgau he captured the Austrian general Bibo (w) with most of his grenadiers and captured a battery with six cannons, for which he received the order Pour le Mérite.

In the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79, Dalwig was with the king's army and commanded the left wing of the cavalry. The army entered Bohemia , but there was no battle.

Georg Ludwig died in Ratibor in 1796 and was buried there in the Holy Spirit Church.
