Karl Heinrich Emil Alexander von Borstell (born February 2, 1778 in Tangermünde , † July 11, 1856 in Stralsund ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Life

His parents were General Hans Friedrich Heinrich von Borstell and his wife Charlotte Luise Wilhelmine, née von Ingersleben. His brother Ludwig also became a general of the cavalry.

Military career

On March 1, 1791 Borstell came as a Junker in the Dragoon Regiment "von Ansbach and Bayreuth" . There he became an ensign on October 12, 1792 . During the First Coalition War he fought in the cannonade of Valmy and in the battle of Kaiserslautern , the battles near Hochheim, Kreuznach, Alzey, Frankenthal and the sieges of Longwy, Verdun, Mainz and Landau. In the meantime, Borstell was promoted to Second Lieutenant on April 25, 1794 . After the war he was transferred to the "von Borstell" cuirassier regiment on January 6, 1800 . There he became Premier Lieutenant on March 1, 1803 and came to General von Elsner on December 31, 1804 as an adjutant inspection . On January 12, 1808, Borstell received the approval to enter into foreign service and was then employed in the Württemberg army . After the collapse of Württemberg , Borstell switched to Prussian services on September 24, 1813 . There he became a brigadier of the Bergische troops with a patent from February 7, 1814. On June 8, 1815, he joined the V Army Corps as a brigade commander. On September 24, 1815 he was appointed commander of the 11th Brigade and on February 7, 1816, commander of the reserve cavalry of the Mobile Army Corps in France. On October 9, 1817, he received approval to wear the Commander's Cross of the Legion of Honor. Borstell was promoted to major general on March 30, 1818 and after the dissolution of the corps on October 26, 1818 appointed commander of the 6th Cavalry Brigade . He received the service cross on July 14, 1825 and the Order of the Red Eagle III on September 28, 1826 . Class. On July 9, 1829 he was given permission to wear the Russian Order of St. Stanislaus, 1st class. Borstell married Henriette Adelheid Freiin Oest von Drießen on October 16, 1803 at Löbichau Castle in Altenburg (* September 10, 1783; † March 7, 1853). She was the daughter of the Russian Lieutenant General von Drießen. The couple had several children:
