Hans Friedrich Heinrich von Borstell (born February 28, 1730 in Schinne ; † November 26, 1804 in Salzwedel ) was a Prussian officer , most recently a lieutenant general .

Life

Hans Friedrich Heinrich was the son of Georg Friedrich von Borstell (* January 24, 1697; † June 27, 1741), Herr auf Schinne and his wife Marie Elisabeth, née Quast from the house of Protzen.

Military career

Borstell occurred on 6 July 1743, the cadet Berlin and 1753 was of 18 February 1745 to early January Page in the Queen of Prussia . He was then employed as a Junker in the "von Bredow" No. 7 Cuirassier Regiment . As lieutenant and adjutant to Georg Wilhelm von Driesen , he took part in the battles near Lobositz , Prague , Kolin , Roßbach , Leuthen and Kay during the campaign in 1756/60 , where he was wounded. Borstell also fought at Reichenbach , the sieges of Breslau and Schweidnitz. He was captured during the battle near Maxen , but exchanged in 1762. As early as August 24, 1759, Borstell had become captain of the squadron in his regiment. On June 5, 1769, he was promoted to major and as such he took part in the 1778/79 campaign with the army of Prince Heinrich of Prussia .

On May 21, 1782 Borstell was Lieutenant Colonel and on 2 June 1783 , Colonel . A year later he was appointed commander of the cuirassier regiment. He then also led this in 1787 in Holland . On December 1, 1788, Friedrich Wilhelm II handed Borstell over as chief of the 9th Dragoon Regiment “von Zitzewitz” . Half a year later he was promoted to major general and the king handed him the head of the cuirassier regiment "von Ilow" No. 7 instead of his previous Dragenrregiment . In the First Coalition War , he acted successfully in the Battle of Pirmasens . Under the leadership of Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand , the Prussian troops defeated the French army under the Général de division Jean René Moreaux . The cuirassier regiment under Borstell played a decisive role in the victory. Afterwards he fought near Kaiserslautern , the siege of Mainz and the attack on Kostheim .

For his services he received the Great Red Eagle Order on September 17, 1793 and was promoted to Lieutenant General on January 8, 1795.

Borstell died on November 24, 1804 in his headquarters in Salzwedel and was buried on November 30 in the family crypt of his patronage church in Schinne.

Borstell was married to Charlotte Luise Wilhelmine, the daughter of Major General of Johann Ludwig von Ingersleben , on August 19, 1769 . The following children were born from the marriage:
