Wilhelm Heinrich Caspar Friedrich Ludwig von Besser (born June 1, 1771 in Magdeburg , † April 9, 1829 in Riesenburg ) was a Prussian colonel and commander of the 5th Cuirassier Regiment .

Life

William Henry was a member of the 1768 ennobled noble family Besser . His parents were the Prussian Lieutenant General Ehrenreich Wilhelm Gottlieb von Besser (1740–1807) and his first wife Helene Dorothea, born von der Schulenburg (1737–1781) from the house of Piskaborn .

Career

Better began his career at the cadet school in Kulm and entered 1786 as a cadet in the Regiment of Dragoons "Graf Hertzberg" the Prussian army one. He was promoted to ensign in 1787 and second lieutenant in 1789 . In 1790 Besser was in the cuirassier regiment "von Ilow" . In 1792 he was transferred to the "von Wylich and Lottum" dragoon regiment and rose to major by 1813 . In 1815 he was assigned to the new 4th Dragoon Regiment, where, after the association was converted to the 5th Cuirassier Regiment in 1819, he was given command in 1821 and he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1822 at the latest . On April 2, 1826 he was promoted to colonel.

Besser took part in the Fourth Coalition and the Wars of Liberation , in particular the battles of Prussian Eylau , Heilsberg , Großgörschen , Bautzen , Katzbach , Leipzig , Laon and Paris but also in the battles near Möckern , Kolditz, Königswartha, Wartenburg , Weißenfels, Chalon sur Marne, Chateau Thierri and Chause Sesanne attended. Better married in 1792 in Groß Klingbeck ( Parish Pörschken ) with Wilhelmine Louise von Borstell (1772-1859), only daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Hans Friedrich Heinrich von Borstell (1730-1804). This marriage ended in divorce in 1802. A second marriage took place in Neuwied in 1816 with Carolina Antonie von Kleist (1790–1864). The first marriage resulted in four children.
