The regiment commander (RgtKdr) designates the position of the highest disciplinary superior in the Bundeswehr according to § 1 Superiors Ordinance (VorgV) of a regiment .

He or she is a colonel / sea captain at the head of the rank group of staff officers . The Commodore of the Air Force (Bundeswehr) corresponds to the regimental commander. As part of his duties, he is regularly represented by the Deputy Regimental Commander (StvRgtKdr), who usually also has the function of a barracks commander . His tasks include:
- Regulation of the representation of the disciplinary superior of a unit subordinate to him.
- Supervision of the military training of the units subordinate to him.
- Guard superior of the military or civilian guard of one or more barracks, if the regimental commander is also barracks commander.

- The NATO name for regimental commander is Commanding Officer (CO) or Commander
- In the Austrian Armed Forces and in the Swiss Army , the position is called regimental commander .
