Barracks commander

The installation commander called in the army usually the official position of the senior officer's a barracks or a comparable military objective (about Bundeswehr University ). He is not to be confused with the site elder , who has similar tasks, but regulates them across barracks.

Position and duties

The barracks commander does not necessarily have the highest rank in a barracks, but within the scope of his duties he has extensive authority to give orders and instructions to the association and unit leaders of the barracks for which he is responsible - § 3 Superiors Ordinance (VorgV).

In the performance of his duties he is regularly supported by the barracks officer or barracks sergeant . He arranges his substitution in case of absence independently.

His duties regularly include:

  • Barracks-related project planning (e.g. road construction; traffic control; occupancy plans of the accommodation) that cannot be assigned to a single unit.
  • Guard superior of the military or civilian guard of a barracks.
  • Cooperation with local authorities (e.g. police)
