Martin Wiehle

Martin Wiehle (born October 23, 1926 in Breslau ) is a German historian.

Life

During the Second World War , Wiehle served as a German soldier in the flak and navy from 1943 to 1945 . In the post-war period he worked as a farm worker in the Bremervörde district until 1946 , before he was employed as a miner in Rositz in Thuringia until 1948 . It then followed from 1948 to 1951 a technical college education at the librarian school in Jena. From 1951 to 1954 he worked as a librarian at the regional library department, first in Jena and later in Weimar . In 1954 he became director of the Wilhelm Weitling city and district library in Magdeburg . He held this position for more than three decades until 1991. From 1957 to 1963 Wiehle completed a distance learning course in history at Berlin's Humboldt University , which he graduated with a degree in history.

From 1955 he published works on historical and biographical topics. The focus was on regional and library history as well as library publications. His merits include several works on the history of the Magdeburg region, including the Magdeburg Börde and the Altmark . He also worked on the Magdeburg Biographical Lexicon published in 2002 .
