Karl Friedrich von Elsner

Karl Friedrich von Elsner (born November 16, 1739 in Wohlau ; † May 26, 1808 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and head of the Gensdarmes regiment .

Life

origin

The family is said to have received the Bohemian baron status in 1693 . He was the son of Hans Joachim von Elsner (1707–1763) and his wife Magdalene Dorothea, née Kämmerer (1715–1759). His father was a gentleman in Loischwitz and Michelsdorf and a councilor from Wohlau. Major General Ferdinand Friedrich Joachim von Elsner (1747–1806) was his brother. Another brother became a tax councilor.

Military career

Elsner came in 1754 as a Junker in the hussar regiment "von Szekely" . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles of Lobositz , Kolin , Roßbach , Kunersdorf , Torgau and Freiberg . He also took part in the expedition to Gotha and the battle of Strehlen. For the battle of Freiberg he received the order Pour le Mérite . At that time he was on March 28, 1758 cornet , on January 17, 1761 lieutenant and adjutant to General Seydlitz . On March 28, 1763, Elsner became staff assistant in the cuirassier regiment "Bredow" .

On April 1, 1764 he became a captain and company commander . It was not until January 22, 1778 that he was promoted to major . As such, Elsner took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession in 1778/79 . On May 28, 1787 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. On June 22, 1788 he was transferred to the cuirassier regiment "von Dalwig" as a commander , and on March 30, 1789, he was a colonel . As such, he was used on April 14, 1791 as leader of the border cordon to Silesia . On November 5, 1793 he was appointed chief of the Gensdarmes regiment. To this end, he was appointed inspector of the Brandenburg cavalry on November 26, 1793. On January 5, 1794, he was appointed major general . On February 26, 1794 he took over the position of General Inspector of the Magdeburg Cavalry Inspection for Duke Karl August von Weimar . But on April 24, 1794, he was transferred to the Troop Corps for southern Poland. In the campaign of 1794/95 in Poland he was on June 15, 1794 in the occupation of Krakow and then in the battle of Rawka . On November 2, 1794, he took over General Schwerin's corps .

On September 24, 1795, the king gave him permission to include the image of Kraków Castle in his coat of arms. On August 21, 1798 he returned the Magdeburg cavalry inspection to Duke Karl August von Weimar . On May 20, 1800 he was appointed lieutenant general with a patent from May 22, 1800. On October 2nd, 1800 he was appointed general inspector of the Pomeranian cavalry inspection ad interim, in addition he received an allowance of 500 thalers and the administration of Zehden. On August 28, 1806 he received his resignation with a pension of 2000 Talers and the Order of the Black Eagle . He was also given permission to wear the uniform on September 1, 1806.

He died on May 26, 1808 in Berlin and was buried on August 29, 1808 in the cemetery at the Oranienburger Tor .

He married Sophie Dorothea Agathe Brion de Lux (1754–1777) on January 8, 1772. The couple had the following children:
