Ferdinand Friedrich Joachim von Elsner (born July 18, 1743 in Wohlau , † February 7, 1806 in Pilgramsdorf ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

The family is said to have received the Bohemian baron status in 1693. He was the son of Hans Joachim von Elsner (* June 4, 1707; † 1763) and his wife Magdalene Dorothea, née Chamberlain (* August 7, 1715; † 1759). His father was a gentleman in Loischwitz and Michelsdorf and a councilor from Wohlau. Major General Karl Friedrich von Elsner (1739–1808) was his brother. Another brother became a tax councilor.

Military career

In 1758 he joined the Hussar Regiment "von Szekely" of the Prussian Army as a Junker . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the battles near Kunersdorf , Torgau and Freiberg . During that time he became a cornet on March 26, 1760 and second lieutenant on July 10, 1761 .

After the war he was on January 1, 1766 Prime Lieutenant and on September 2, 1773 Staff Assistant . As such, he took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . After the campaign, on November 10, 1779, he became captain and squadron chief . On September 25th he was promoted to major and on September 22nd, 1789 he received the order Pour le Mérite . Elsner was promoted to colonel by January 28, 1794, and was appointed regimental commander on August 6, 1794. Elsner received his resignation on May 15, 1796 with an annual pension of 600 thalers. Shortly thereafter, on June 22, 1796, he was given the character of major general.

Elsner married Johanne Beate Zipelius (* 23 August 1749 - 18 March 1786) from Sulau in 1780. The couple had several children including:

  • Beate Marianne Friederike (March 5, 1781 - March 20, 1817)
  • Sylvius Ernst Karl Joachim (* July 31, 1783; † November 1, 1851), Chamberlain, District Administrator of the Goldberg-Haynau district , Knight of the Order of St. John ∞ Friederike Charlotte Ottilie von Debschitz (* September 25, 1793; † May 20, 1869)

After the death of his first wife, he married Eleonore Tugendreich von Bock and Polach (* 1750, † November 11, 1820) on September 11, 1796 , divorced von Mauschwitz and widow of District Administrator Valentin von Redern .
