Felix von Damnitz

Bogislaw Friedrich Felix von Damnitz (born October 26, 1847 in Quänzendorf, † September 11, 1926 in Eisdorf, Silesia ) was a Prussian cavalry general and horse breeder .

Life

Felix was a son of the government councilor Karl Heinrich Ludwig von Damnitz (1822-1903) and his wife Antonie Friederike Clementine, born von Poser and Groß-Naedlitz (1825-1896). He was a landowner in Silesia on Eisdorf, Fehebeutel and Häslicht.

From around 1866 he served in the Oldenburg Dragoon Regiment No. 19 , was an ensign in the German War and was wounded. He also took part in the Battle of Königgrätz and was awarded the Memorial Cross for this .

In 1898 he was appointed inspector of the Remonte Inspection in the War Ministry . In this role he bought draft and riding horses for the field artillery and thus acquired extensive knowledge of horses. On January 27, 1908 Damnitz received the character of general of the cavalry.

He took part in breeding exhibitions, was a member of an agricultural district commission, chairman of an award commission for fillies and, as such, had an influence on horse breeders in the Striegau district , Silesia. Felix von Damnitz also bought and sold horses.

In 1911 he published a book on army horses , the content of which was taken up several times.

Damnitz had been married to Friederike Auguste Charlotte Theodore Beseke (1848–1937) since 1868 and they had a son.
