Damitz is the name of a Pomeranian noble family with the parent houses Dumzin (until 1780), Funkenhagen (until approx. 1775) and Groß Möllen (1333 to approx. 1800) in the former Kolberg-Körlin district in Western Pomerania . The family name Damitz also appears in documents from the city of Dahme in Niederlausitz, as an alternative name for the extinct family of the Lords of Dahme , who owned the Dahme rule and the Golsin burgraviate .

history

The family, which was mentioned in a document around 1240, was long -established and wealthy in the historical region of the Principality of Cammin . In 1243 Gerhard von Damitz appeared as a witness in Stettin . The family line begins with Alexander de Damyz , who is mentioned in a document dated August 27, 1282. Herrmannus Dametze (or Damiz ) from Kolberg bought the village of Groß Möllen from the Kolberg patrician family Schlieffen in 1333 . Nikolaus von Damitz , son of Hermann von Damitz , who lived around 1400, was successively Chancellor of the Pomeranian Dukes Erich II and Bogislaw X. Johannes von Damitz was Chancellor of Cammin in Pomerania and around 1630 governor in Pomerania .
