Curt Wolf von Pfuel (also Kurt ; born September 28, 1849 in Potsdam ; † July 16, 1936 there ) was a Prussian cavalry general , general inspector of military education and chairman of the central committee of the German Red Cross associations .

origin

Pfuel came from the old, in Jahnsfelde in the Brandenburg Switzerland -based noble family of Pfuel . He was the son of Major General Wolf von Pfuel (1809–1866) and Marie von Lamprecht (1823–1860) and the grandson of the Prussian Prime Minister Ernst von Pfuel . Lieutenant General Maximilian von Pfuel was his cousin. His great-grandfather Ludwig von Pfuel , was the court marshal of Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia .

After attending grammar schools in Düsseldorf , Berlin and Stettin , he studied law at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , where he also received his doctorate . He was a member of the Corps Saxonia ("Göttinger Sachsen").

At the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War , Pfuel joined the Thuringian Hussar Regiment No. 12 as a flag junior in 1870 and participated in the last part of the campaign. On January 18, 1871 he was promoted to ensign , on April 15, 1871 to secondary lieutenant. After being temporarily assigned to the War Academy (1875/78), he was transferred to the Westphalian Uhlan Regiment No. 5 in Düsseldorf until 1883 . In May 1883 he was transferred to the General Staff as a captain and in October of the same year he was appointed military attaché in Madrid . In January 1885 he returned to Germany and was then personal adjutant to Prince Wilhelm until 1889 or, after his accession to the throne as Kaiser Wilhelm II, his wing adjutant . In 1889 Pfuel was enlisted as a major and regular staff officer in the body cuirassier regiment "Großer Kurfürst" (Silesian) No. 1 , and was then commander of the Königs-Ulanen-Regiment (1st Hannoversches) No. 13 . In 1894 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , in 1896 to colonel and on January 27, 1898, he was appointed commander of the 20th Cavalry Brigade in Hanover. He became major general in 1899 and lieutenant general and commander of the 28th division in Karlsruhe in 1903 .

In 1906 he took over the function of general inspector of military education and training. At the same time he became Deputy President of the Reich Military Court . In 1908 Pfuel became general of the cavalry. In approval of his resignation petition, Pfuel was put up for disposition on March 12, 1910 with the statutory pension and at the same time à la suite of the King's Uhlan Regiment (1st Hannoversches) No. 13.

During the First World War , Pfuel was chairman of the central committee of the German Red Cross associations.

Curt Wolf von Pfuel married Anna Countess von der Groeben on January 25, 1886 in Montreux .
