Adolf August Ludwig Karl Ruprecht Freiherr Boecklin von Boecklinsau (born January 2, 1838 in Ettenheim , † January 10, 1921 in Karlsruhe ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the Baden chamberlain and district forester Emil Karl Ernst Eduard Boecklin von Boecklinsau (1807–1872) and his wife Marie Josefine Auguste, née Freiin Neveu zu Windschläg (1814–1873).

Military career

Boecklin attended high school in Offenburg and then the cadet school in Karlsruhe. On September 30, 1857 he was employed as a porter ensign in the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the Baden Army . Here Boecklin advanced to lieutenant on July 28, 1858 and was transferred to the 5th Infantry Regiment on February 16, 1861 . From the end of August 1861 to December 1863 he graduated from the higher officers' school in Karlsruhe and then served as adjutant of the 1st battalion. In this capacity Boecklin was promoted to first lieutenant on November 9, 1865 and took part in the battles near Hundheim , Werbach and Gerchsheim the following year during the war against Prussia . After the war he was promoted to captain and appointed company commander on December 29, 1868 when he was transferred to the Leib Grenadier Regiment .

As such, Boecklin fought during the war against France in 1870/71 in the sieges of Strasbourg and Belfort as well as the battles at Seltz , Bruyères , Dijon , Nuits and Vougeot . His achievements were honored with the award of the Iron Cross 2nd Class and the Knight's Cross 1st Class of the Order of the Zähringer Lion with Swords. After the establishment of the Empire and the Peace of Frankfurt , on July 15, 1871, he was taken over with his regiment in the Prussian Army . In mid-December 1878 Boecklin moved up to the regimental staff , became major there on January 23, 1879 and came to Detmold as a regular staff officer on December 11, 1880 in the 6th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 55 . There he acted from November 16, 1882 to July 5, 1886 as commander of the fusilier battalion. When he was promoted to lieutenant colonel, he was then employed as a regular staff officer in the 3rd Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 79 in Hildesheim . Under position à la suite of the 2nd Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 32 , Boecklin was commissioned on November 6, 1888 with the management of the unit and shortly thereafter appointed on December 13, 1888 with simultaneous promotion to colonel as regimental commander. This was followed on October 24, 1891 as major general, the appointment as commander of the 20th Infantry Brigade in Poznan . For his achievements in the command of the troops, Boecklin received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves, on the occasion of the festival on January 21, 1894 . Three months later he was awarded the character as a Lieutenant General with the statutory board for disposition made.

In subsequent recognition of his many years of service, Boecklin was awarded the Commander's Cross 1st Class of the Order of Berthold the First on June 8, 1903 , the Grand Cross of the Order of the Zähringer Löwen on September 22, 1906 and the Grand Cross of the Order of Frederick on November 5, 1907 .

He was co-owner of Nonnenweiler and knight of honor of the Order of St. John .

family

Boecklin had married Emilie Amalie Rau (1851-1932) on January 23, 1873 in Karlsruhe. The two daughters Auguste (* 1873) and Amalie (* 1879) as well as the son Ludwig (* 1875) emerged from the marriage.
