Rudolf von Schön

Rudolf Karl Leopold von Schoen (born October 6, 1810 in Friedrichsgabe , † September 8, 1891 in Berlin ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Life

He was the son of Ferdinand Leopold von Schoen (1774-1851), former Prussian lieutenant colonel. D., and his wife born from Stenzler.

Schoen studied law at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen , the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and the Albertus-Universität Königsberg . He was a member of the Corps Borussia Göttingen (1825) and the Corps Littuania (1829). Schoen joined the 3rd Cuirassier Regiment of the Prussian Army on November 15, 1829 as a one-year volunteer . Here he was promoted to portepee ensign on November 12, 1831 and to secondary lieutenant on August 15, 1832 . After he was appointed to the teaching squadron in 1841 and again as an assistant professor there in 1844, he was promoted to prime lieutenant on February 15, 1845 . From July 17, 1845 he was a riding instructor at the teaching squadron and returned to the 3rd cuirassier regiment on May 26, 1849 when it was dissolved. On October 9, 1849 , he was commanded as a teacher at the new military riding school in Schwedt and rose to Rittmeister on April 22, 1851 while remaining in his command , but was at the same time aggregated to the 2nd Cuirassier Regiment . When he was promoted to major , he also became squadron chief in the 2nd Dragoons Regiment , but on November 1, 1856, he switched to the 6th Uhlan Regiment as a regular staff officer . Schoen was entrusted with the leadership of the 5th cuirassier regiment on March 12, 1859 and appointed regimental commander on June 11 of the same year . On July 1, 1860, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel , and to colonel on October 18, 1861. Schoen was honored on November 11, 1862 with the Order of St. Anne II. Class with crown. On March 3, 1866, he became the commander of the 10th Cavalry Brigade in Poznan . In this capacity he took part in the battle of Königgrätz and the battle of Tobitschau in 1866 during the war against Austria . On September 6, 1866, he was assigned to the Department of Remonts in the War Ministry and on September 20, he was awarded the Order of the Crown, Second Class with Swords , for his achievements during the war . That same year, on November 3rd, he was appointed remonte inspector. Schoen took part in the war against France in 1870/71 . On July 20, 1870, he was promoted to lieutenant general and on March 29, 1871, the star was awarded to the Order of the Crown, 2nd class. He last received the Order of the Red Eagle 1st class on January 18, 1874 . On August 19, 1875, he was finally awarded the character as a cavalry general with board for disposition made.

He found his final resting place with his burial on September 11, 1891 in the military cemetery in Hasenheide .
