Wachendorf is a district of the city of Mechernich in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The village is north of Mechernich. District road 42 and state road 11 run through the village .

history

On July 1, 1969, Wachendorf was incorporated into Veytal .

On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Veytal (with the exception of the district Schwerfen, which came to the city of Zülpich ) was incorporated into the municipality (now the city) of Mechernich .

Attractions

St. Peter
  • The guard village castle with medieval origins took on its current appearance late 19th century. Inside there is, among other things, a Buddhist Zen center.
  • The chapel of St. Peter was probably built in the 9th or 10th century and the choir was added in the 15th century. The glass paintings were created by Franz Binsfeld in 1933 and Paul Weigmann in 1977.
  • The Brother Klaus Field Chapel by the Swiss architect Peter Zumthor was built as a private initiative and inaugurated in 2007 to the southwest of the village . The modern prayer room is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
