Weiler am Berge is an eastern district of Mechernich in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The Krebsbach, the Kühlbach and the Schwarzwassergraben have their source near the village . Weiler am Berge has a village house and a memorial for the victims of the wars. Drug hunts on horseback take place twice a year.

history

The first evidence of settlement was discovered during archaeological excavations and could be dated to the time of the Roman Empire . It is also known that there were already some manors in the village in the Middle Ages .

After the French invaded in 1794, the area on the left bank of the Rhine became French. In 1798 they divided the area into four departments , which in turn were subdivided into arrondissements . Within these administrative units Mairien emerged , including the Mairie Wachendorf , to which the "Commune de Weiler" was added. It was probably not taken into account that Weiler was under the parish in Holzheim . This resulted in the school-age children from Weiler aB attending the elementary school in Holzheim in the 19th century. Weiler am Berge was also dependent on a water supply from the former Schleiden district for the water supply. a. emerged from the canton of Gemünd. Although Weiler's interdependency with the neighboring Schleiden district was more intense than that with its own district, the seemingly arbitrary canton boundary from 1798 was not corrected in the course of more than a century and a half Removed the district and administrative district boundaries that emerged from the cantonal borders and created the city of Mechernich, brought the centuries-old communities of Weiler am Berge and Holzheim under a common communal roof.

For the establishment of a mairie it was necessary that a list of the inhabitants was drawn up with the support of the mayor. In Weiler am Berge, Baron von Ritz took on this task at Wachendorf Castle . It contained some errors that could be cleared up afterwards using the register of persons. Only one family name could not be clearly identified. On April 5, 1801 Weiler am Berge had 82 inhabitants.

The "Commune de Weiler" only received the attribute "am Berge" in the Euskirchen district as a community of Weiler in the course of the 19th century to distinguish it from the community of the same name (supplemented accordingly to Weiler in der Ebene ) Place names added.

A school was not built on site until the 1960s. On January 1, 1988 there were 254 inhabitants. In the course of more than 186 years since the first “population census” in today's urban area, their number rose by 172 or 209.76 percent; that means an average annual increase of one resident. After a population of 210 in 1900, the population began to decline until the beginning of the Second World War .

On July 1, 1969, Weiler am Berge was incorporated into Veytal .

On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Veytal (with the exception of the district Schwerfen, which came to the city of Zülpich ) was incorporated into the municipality (now the city) of Mechernich .
