Eschweiler is a western district of Bad Münstereifel in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
Location and traffic
The district road K 45 runs through Eschweiler towards Mechernich - Weiler am Berge ., A side road of the B 51 . The next motorway exit is Bad Münstereifel / Mechernich on the A 1 . The Eschweilerbach flows into the Erft to the east of Eschweiler .
history
Eschweiler was first mentioned in a document in 1115 when the residents paid tithe to the collegiate church of St. Chrysanthus and Daria in Bad Münstereifel. 1554/1555 - Eschweiler belonged to the Duchy of Jülich at that time - the residents had to hand over jurisdiction to the Münstereifel High Court. At a later stage the place came to office Münstereifel and formed with together with Kalkar and Weiler am Berge a Honnschaft . In 1804 the village church was elevated to a parish church . With the Congress of Vienna the place became an independent municipality. On July 1, 1969, the previously independent municipality of Eschweiler was incorporated into Bad Münstereifel.
Attractions
- The Catholic parish church of St. Margareta , built between 1901 and 1902 above an older predecessor building, belongs to the pastoral care area of Bad Münstereifel / Erfttal in the Archdiocese of Cologne .
- Located near since 1956 which is now under monument protection standing radio telescope Stockert Radio Telescope on the hill Stockert and the nature reserve Eschweiler valley .
