Kirspenich is a district of Bad Münstereifel in the Euskirchen district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The place is north of the core town of Bad Münstereifel. The national road 11 runs through the village. The federal highway 51 leads past the western edge of the town . In the village, the Holzbach flows into the Erft . The Erfttalbahn runs past the place. The Arloff stop is in the neighboring district of Arloff.

The developments of Kirspenich and those of the southern Arloff merge seamlessly into one another.

history

Kirspenich is of Celtic-Roman origin after the name. The place 893 is mentioned for the first time in writing in the list of goods of the Prüm Abbey ,

Kirspenich belonged to the independent community of Arloff until it was incorporated into Bad Münstereifel on July 1, 1969.

Castle

In the place is a completely renovated moated castle from the 13th / 14th. Century. It is first mentioned in 1301. The 28.5 m high square, massive residential tower standing on an island and the curtain wall stand next to a main building from the 17th and 18th centuries. This has one of the first mansard roofs in the Rhineland . The partially fortified outbuildings on the moat probably date from the 14th or 15th century. The castle is privately owned and is included in the moated castle route .
