Reckerscheid is a district of Bad Münstereifel in the district of Euskirchen , North Rhine-Westphalia and belongs to the village community and formerly an independent municipality of Mutscheid .

The place is about 12 km southeast of Bad Münstereifel. The district road 50 runs through the village, the district road 48 opens in the village.

history

In 1865 the town of Reckerscheid was hit by a serious fire disaster:

“On the feast of the birth of Mary - on September 8th, 1865 - the community of Mutscheid was hit by a huge fire accident. The village of Reckerscheid was almost completely reduced to ashes: 14 houses, 11 barns and 22 stables were destroyed by flames. The school house built around 30 years ago for the villages of Esch , Willerscheid , Reckerscheid, Soller and Hummerzheim also burned out completely. With the lack of water and the extraordinary speed with which the fire spread, very few movables could be saved. The completely rubbed fruits such as oats, rye, barley, flax and hay are totally burned. None of this has been saved. Helpless and helpless as well as without shelter, without clothing, except for the ones they wear on their bodies, without food for themselves and without food for their cattle, the inhabitants so terribly affected by this look forward to the coming winter ... The loss is enormous, and without ample help there is no salvation for the injured. "

Reckerscheid belonged to the independent community of Mutscheid until it was incorporated into Bad Münstereifel on July 1, 1969.

Chapel of St. Apollonia

The chapel was built in the 18th century and dedicated to St. Apollonia . It was restored in 1877, but had to be demolished in 1925 due to dilapidation. The Reckerscheider rebuilt it in the same place in the same shape and size. From 1979 to 1981 the chapel had to be extensively renovated. The roof turret houses a 17 kg bell from 1724.
