Raul Gomez
Raúl Gómez Ramírez (born February 13, 1950 in Mexico City ) is a former Mexican football player who acted in the central midfield or in attack. He was better known by his nickname "Willy".
Career
"Willy" Gómez played throughout his active career (from 1967 to 1980) exclusively for the Club Deportivo Guadalajara , with which he was both champion and cup winner of Mexico in 1970 . Immediately after this double, however, a ten-year dry spell began for the glorious club, which is known as " Chivas flacas " (lean goats); an allusion to the poor sporting achievements of the Chivas-Elf in those years when Willy was still one of the outstanding players in an otherwise rather mediocre team.
He made his international debut on March 8, 1970 in Lima against Peru (0-1). In total, Willy Gómez made six international appearances, in which he - in his third international match against Australia (3-0) - managed a single goal. He played his last international match on September 11, 1971 in Casablanca against Morocco (1: 2) at the age of just 21.
