Copa México

Copa México is a soccer tournament in Mexico , which was initially held between 1907 and 1997. On May 31, 2012 it was announced that the Copa México will be reintroduced from Apertura 2012. Since then, the cup tournament, which was previously held annually, has taken place twice a year; once each in the Apertura and the Clausura .

Copa Tower (1907 / 08–1920 / 21)

The first cup tournament in Mexico was held in the 1907/08 season under the name Copa Tower . The first phase of the Mexican club cup was named after the British ambassador Reginald Thomas Tower (1860-1939), who came to Mexico in 1907 and donated the cup in the same year. At that time, only teams from the greater Mexico City area were eligible to participate - and so with the exception of the two-time winner Pachuca AC, all other winners came from the Mexican capital.

Copa Eliminatoria (1921 / 22–1931 / 32)

The Copa Eliminatoria , newly introduced in 1921/22 , was only played five times.

Copa México (amateur phase, 1932 / 33–1942)

A few years after the founding of the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) in 1927, it donated a new trophy before the start of the 1932/33 season, which was named Copa México . Only teams that played in the Primera Fuerza were eligible to participate .
