Matías Jesús Almeyda (born December 21, 1973 in Azul , Buenos Aires Province ) is a former Argentine soccer player and today's soccer coach.

Almeyda played in his career for various well-known clubs such as River Plate , Sevilla FC , Lazio Rome , AC Parma and Inter Milan . With River Plate, the defensive midfielder won the Apertura three times and the Copa Libertadores in 1996 ; his successes with Lazio were the Coppa Italia in 1998 and 2000, the European Cup Winners' Cup and the European Supercup in 1999, as well as the Italian championship title in 2000.

He was a member of the Argentine national team and took part in the 1996 Olympic Games (2nd place) and the 1998 and 2002 World Championships .

Almeyda began his coaching career at his parent club River Plate Buenos Aires after the first relegation in club history from the first division, which he could not prevent as a player, with a 1-0 victory, the goal scorer was the Uruguayan Juan Manuel Díaz , in the first Game of the 2nd Argentine League Primera B Nacional at River Plate Stadium in August 2011 against CA Chacarita Juniors . In September 2015, he replaced José Manuel de la Torre as head coach of Deportivo Guadalajara in the Mexican Liga MX . In the Clausura 2017 he led his team to the championship. After the 2017/18 season he resigned after his team had finished both rounds in the lower half of the table. In October 2018 he became the new coach of the San José Earthquakes in the US Major League Soccer .
