The Club de Fútbol Asturias is a division of the Centro Asturiano de México AC, founded on February 7, 1918 by Asturian immigrants in the home of Antonio Martinez Cuétara in Mexico City . The real motivation for founding this center was the creation of a football team that would unite all emigrated Asturians.

history

The CF Asturias played from the 1919/20 season until its dissolution after the 1942/43 season in the Primera Fuerza and went down as the first champion of the professional league introduced in 1943/44 in the history of Mexican football. At the end of the season Asturias was level with their Spanish rivals España , so a play-off was necessary. This decided Asturias with 4: 1 clearly in his favor.

In addition, CF Asturias is the record cup winner of Mexico with eight successes .

When professional football was introduced in 1943, the Asturianos owned the most modern football temple in Mexico with the club's own Parque Asturias .

Together with the Real Club España and the UD Moctezuma , the club withdrew its football team from the professional league in 1950 due to association quarrels. In order to be able to continue participating in year-round football tournaments as an amateur sports club, the CF Asturias set up the Liga Española de Fútbol de México in cooperation with the Real Club España and the Spanish municipality of Mexico City in 1954 .

The name of the association refers to the province or today's autonomous region of Asturias (span. Asturias ) in northwestern Spain , where the founding fathers of the association came from.
