Fernando García Lorenzo (born December 18, 1912 in Astillero , Cantabria , † June 2, 1990 ), also known by the nickname El Gavilán , was a Spanish football coach and player who mainly acted in the central midfield .

Life

"El Gavilán" García began his sporting career in ranks of his home club Unión Club de Astillero and moved in 1931 to the Real Racing Club de Santander , where he was under contract until 1936.

On January 19, 1936, he played his only international match for the Spanish national team , which was lost 4-5 to Austria.

Due to the Spanish Civil War that broke out in the same year , FC Barcelona made a tour of Latin America , in which García also took part. He settled in Mexico , where he first played for the Asturias club, which was dominated by Spanish immigrants , and won the championship with him in the 1938/39 season. After this triumph he moved to Club Atlante .

After the Argentine team from San Lorenzo had completed some games in Mexico in early 1942, García temporarily joined the Argentines. He soon returned to Mexico, where the professional league had now been introduced, which he won with Real Club España in the 1944/45 season.

In 1946 he spent a short time in the service of FC Barcelona and in the same year won the Argentine championship with San Lorenzo . He then played again for the Mexican Real Club España before moving to Club Marte , in whose ranks he ended his active career in 1951 at the age of 38.

After his active work, "El Gavilán" was under contract in his adopted home Mexico as a coach with Irapuato , Morelia and Toluca .
