José Antonio Rodríguez Fernández was a Cuban soccer player who mainly played in midfield .

Rodríguez was a member of the most successful Cuban national soccer team of all time, which took part in the soccer World Cup in 1938 and was able to prevail in the first round against the Romanian national team . Overall, Cuba played three games at this World Cup and Rodríguez took part in all of the matches.

At that time Rodríguez was playing for the Cuban club CD Centro Gallego .

After the introduction of the Mexican professional league for the 1943/44 season , he was obliged by the local first division club Asturias and immediately won their third and last championship with the Asturianos . For the 1944/45 season he moved to the "Spanish" arch-rival Real Club España , with whom he won the 15th championship title in the history of the Españistas , for which it was also the last triumph.
