Copa México 1989/90

The Copa MX 1989/90 was the 36th edition of the football - cup competition since the introduction of professional football in Mexico .

The cup tournament was held in the first half of 1990. The 20 teams that played first-class that season were eligible to participate. In order to enable an orderly knockout procedure from the round of 16, in which only 16 teams can participate, a qualifying round was preceded in which the clubs had to participate that were listed in the half-time table for the season (according to the status at the start of the cup tournament in January 1990) occupied places 13 to 20. The teams that finished in places 1 to 12 were thus automatically qualified for the round of 16.

Cup winners for the fourth time after 1945 , 1953 and finally in 1988 the Puebla FC .

The matches were played in the knockout system, with each round (including the final) playing back and forth with one home right for both opponents.

The qualifying round matches were played between January 17 and 31, 1990.

Puebla

The finals were played on April 11th and 18th, 1990. Puebla FC was able to turn the 2-0 defeat they suffered in the first leg at UANL Tigres with a 4-1 home win in the second leg. The goals for the Camoteros were scored by Carlos Poblete (2), Jorge Aravena and Marcelino Bernal . The goals for the Tigres were scored by Sergio Almirón (one each in the first leg) and Jorge Gama (in the first leg).
