from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copa México 1937/38 was the fifth of a total of nine events of the soccer cup competition under the name " Copa México " in the decade before the introduction of professional football in Mexico . Cup winners were for the first time ever in the competition held since 1907/08 (at that time still under the name "Copa Tower") the team of Club America , which had already reached the finals twice before, but both in 1933/34 and in the previous season (1936 / 37) failed at the record cup winner CF Asturias .

The cup tournament was held following the league round of the 1937/38 season and was played by the six teams that were represented in the top division at the time. At that time, all participants came exclusively from Mexico City .

With the following team, Club América won the cup competition of the 1937/38 season:

Rafael Mollinedo - Gómez 1 , Armando Frank - Rosas 2 , Alfredo "Viejo" Sánchez , Pedro Andrade Pradillo - Enrique Ostos , Octavio "La Pulga" Vial , Luis "La Pirata" Fuente , Argüelles 3 , Jorge Sota ; Coach: Rafael Garza Gutiérrez .

Remarks

1 Both at RSSSF (see individual records) and at ClubAmerica.com.mx, only the surname Gómez is given in the team list, so it cannot be determined which of the two brothers (Daniel or Félix) who were playing for America at the time played the final Has.

2 In both sources (see note above) only the family name Rosas is given. The three Rosas brothers, Felipe "El Diente" , Manuel "El Chaquetas" and Juan "La Chúndara" , who were known at the time, had a long association with the CF Atlante. Membership in Club America is not known. Therefore, it cannot be determined whether one of the three brothers played for Club America in the 1937/38 season or another person with the same family name.

3 In this case, too, only the family name is given in both sources (see note 1), so that it is not possible to understand whether it is the footballer Luis Argüelles , who was known in Mexico at the time and who was (possibly even exclusively) played for CF Asturias , or another person with the same family name.
