Jorge Sota

Jorge Sota García (born February 27, 1912 in Orizaba , Veracruz , † August 3, 1994 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican football player who was mostly used in midfield .

He was under contract with Club America , in whose ranks he was top scorer of the Primera Fuerza with 12 goals in the 1929/30 season . In 1934 he was appointed to the Mexican national team, for which he played two World Cup qualifiers against Cuba in March 1934 , which were won 5-0 and 4-1. In the first game on March 11, 1934, he scored the opening goal.

His brothers, with whom he grew up in the small industrial town of Orizaba, also played for Club America and were also called up to the national team: for example, the striker Ernesto Sota took part in the 1928 Olympic Games , where he played his only two international games and also scored one goal scored. The goalkeeper Isidoro Sota was part of the Mexican World Cup squad in 1930 and made his only international appearance in the game against Chile (3-0).
