Ernesto Sota

Ernesto Sota (born December 11, 1896 in Orizaba , Veracruz , † May 25, 1977 ) was a Mexican football player , coach and official . He participated in the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam , where he wore the jersey of his home country in the games against Spain (1: 7) and Chile (1: 3) and scored the consolation goal against Chile.

The striker was the top scorer of the Primera Fuerza with 10 goals in the 1924/25 season and again in the 1927/28 season with 16 goals. During the same period (1925 to 1928) he was four times in a row Mexican champions with the Club America .

His brothers Isidoro and Jorge also wore the America jersey and were called up to the national team. Goalkeeper Isidoro Sota was part of the national team at the first World Cup in Uruguay in 1930 , where he played a game against Chile (3-0). Midfielder Jorge Sota was the top scorer of the Primera Fuerza with 12 goals in the 1929/30 season and played two qualifying games for the 1934 World Cup against Cuba, which were won 5-0 and 4-1. In the first game on March 11, 1934, he scored the opening goal.

From 1934 to 1937 Ernesto Sota was president of Club América and, in addition, he coached the club at short notice in 1935 when long-time coach Rafael Garza Gutiérrez (1933-1941) was temporarily unavailable.
