Copa México 1955/56

The Copa MX 1955/56 was the 14th edition of the football - cup competition since the introduction of professional football in Mexico .

The cup tournament was held following the league round of the 1955/56 season. The 14 teams that were represented in the top division in the same season were eligible to participate . Therefore, there were only six games in the round of 16 and two teams went through by bye.

Cup winners were the team from Deportivo Toluca , which won their first title in professional football with this success. The opponent in the final was the team from Club Deportivo Irapuato , which never reached a cup final again either before or after.

The encounters were played in the knockout system . With the exception of the final, for which only one match was scheduled, the previous rounds took place in home and away games with one home right for the two opponents. The final venue was the Estadio Olímpico Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City .

The first legs of the semi-finals were played on May 13, 1956 and the second legs on May 20, 1956.

final

The final was held on May 27, 1956. After Carlos Láscarez had given the Diablos Rojos the lead in the second minute, Luis Andrés Sansón scored the equalizer for the Freseros in the 56th minute . Ten minutes later Ricardo Barraza ensured the final score in favor of Diablos Rojos . Because Toluca's goalkeeper Manuel Camacho had spent the previous two seasons with two-time cup winners America (whom the Diablos Rojos eliminated in the first round of the current competition), Camacho celebrated his personal title trick.
