Manuel Camacho Meléndez (born April 6, 1929 in Atemajac del Valle , Jalisco ; † September 24, 2008 in San Diego , California , USA ), also known by the nickname La Bruja (the witch ), was a Mexican soccer goalkeeper who was practically a professional player was in use for a quarter of a century.

La Bruja Camacho made his professional debut in the Mexican Primera División at the age of fifteen in a game between Club América against Club Marte , which was played on November 2, 1944 and won 4-1 by América. In 1946 Camacho left Club America and went to CD Veracruz . Two years later he returned to the capital and played one season for CF Asturias . From 1949 to 1953 he was under contract with Club Marte. Otherwise, he only managed four years of club membership at Deportivo Toluca FC , for whom he guarded the goal 84 times between 1955 and 1959. Most of the missions (132 in total) he had for the Club America; the only club for which he worked several times. After his early years (1944 to 1946) and two more years from 1953 to 1955 and three seasons between 1961 and 1964, he was under contract with América for a total of seven years. In the seasons 1953/54 and 1954/55 he won the cup competition with the Americanistas and in 1955 the Supercup .
In 1967 he moved to the newly formed US National Professional Soccer League and guarded the gate for the Chicago Spurs . There he ended his active career and stayed in the USA, where he last lived in San Diego, where he died on September 24, 2008 of complications from a heart attack .
National team
Camacho, who was appointed to the Mexican World Cup squad in 1958 , where he got no chance of appearances behind Antonio Carbajal , only completed one half in the goal of the Mexican national team . On March 17, 1956, he was substituted on in a game against Chile (2: 1) at halftime when the score was 1: 1 for "Tubo" Gómez and remained clean.
