Jorge Romo Fuentes (born April 20, 1923 in Mexico City , † June 17, 2014 in Cuernavaca ) was a Mexican football player who played in defense .

biography

Romo began his active career with his hometown club Juventud , where he first played in the youth and later in the adults. In 1947 he decided to turn pro and signed with CF Asturias . After the Asturianos withdrew from professional football at the end of the 1949/50 season, Romo moved to CD Marte . and won the championship with this club in the 1953/54 season. Immediately after winning the title, Marte had to part with a number of players due to financial problems and Romo went to Deportivo Toluca FC , where he stayed until the end of his playing football career in 1961. With this club he won the Copa México in 1956 with a 2-1 final win over Irapuato .

National team

Romo made his debut in the Mexican national team on September 11, 1949 in a World Cup qualifier against Cuba, which was won 2-0.

In the 1950 World Cup he was indeed taken into account, but was for the world championships in 1954 and 1958 nominations, where he completed a total of four games in 1954, he played both games of the Mexicans against Brazil (0: 5) and France (2: 3), 1958 the group matches against Sweden (0: 3) and Wales (1: 1), when "el Tri" won his first point at a World Cup.
