Copa México 1951/52

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Copa MX 1951/52 was the tenth edition of the football - cup competition since the introduction of professional football in Mexico . Eligible to participate were the twelve teams that were represented in the top division in the league round of the 1951/52 season . Because the champions León FC had to leave many players for the national team, the club decided not to participate and was replaced by the second division champions and first division promoted CF La Piedad . Last year's winner CF Atlante was able to successfully defend his title, but never won the cup again.

The venue for all three matches in the final group was the Estadio Olímpico Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City .

The preliminary round matches were played between February 17 and March 27, 1952.

Atlante

With the following team, the CF Atlante won their last and decisive game against Puebla FC and thus the cup competition of the 1951/52 season:

José "Chato" Sierra - José "Chepina" Rivera, Renato Ruffo, José Antonio Rodríguez - Telmo García, Rafael "Chicho" Ávalos - Raúl de Alba , Norberto Rosas, Ricardo Escandón , Luis Fernández, Lucio Gómez ; Coach: Gregorio Blasco .

Nine of these players had already successfully contested last year's final for Atlante. The only newcomers were the otherwise “eternal substitute goalkeeper” José “Chato” Sierra and Lucio Gómez, who was newly signed before the season and also scored a goal in this game, on the left winger. There had also been a change in the coaching position. While the previous year's title was achieved under the Mexican coach Octavio Vial , this time the Spaniard Gregorio Blasco led the team to success.
