Copa México 1966/67

The Copa MX 1966/67 was the 25th edition of the football - cup competition since the introduction of professional football in Mexico . The tournament was played before the start of the league round of the 1966/67 season. The 16 teams that were represented in the top division in the same season were eligible to participate .

Cup winners for the third time was the team of León FC , which was successful again every nine years after their tournament victories in 1949 and 1958.

The encounters were played in the knockout system . All rounds except for the final, for which only one match was scheduled, were played in two-way and two-way games, each with a home right for the two opponents. For the first time, the final venue was the newly opened Aztec Stadium in Mexico City .

Round of 16

The round of 16 matches were played between June 2 and June 13, 1966. Although there was only one home win in the total of eight first legs, in the end only one of the first away teams could qualify for the next round.

Quarter finals

The quarter-finals were played between June 19 and June 26, 1966. As in the first round, Club Deportivo Guadalajara only prevailed in this round on penalties .
