The Club de Fútbol Ciudad Madero - or CF Madero for short - was a Mexican football club from Ciudad Madero in the state of Tamaulipas , which was created in 1964 as the legal successor to Club Refineria Madero , which was founded on January 29, 1956 . This club was repeatedly in the early 1960s before promotion to the Primera División , but had always failed in its promotion efforts.

The new club was founded to take part in a special tournament initiated by the Mexican Football Association in early 1964 . The aim was to increase the number of top division teams from 14 to 16 from the following season. However, the CF Madero could not prevail and remained in the second division. However, in the next season (1964/65) under head coach Ernesto Candia, he should win the second division championship - and thus achieve regular promotion. The storm duo formed by Álvaro del Peral and Catarino Tafoya played a decisive role in this success .

In the promotion season (1965/66) still barely escaped relegation, the path led back to the second division in 1967. In 1973, CF Madero under coach Grimaldo González once again made it to the top division, but relegation followed after just two years. The record of the relegation season 1974/75 was devastating: of the 38 games Madero had won only five, but lost 22.

Because the club was never able to move up to the top division afterwards and always moved in the relegation regions during its four first division years, CF Madero did not leave a lasting impression. Eventually, gaming came to a complete standstill.

In 2002 the club was briefly reanimated, started in the third-class Segunda Division and later relegated to the fourth-class Tercera Division .
