Copa México 1952/53

The Copa MX 1952/53 was the eleventh edition of the football - cup competition since the introduction of professional football in Mexico . The twelve teams that were represented in the top division in the 1952/53 season were eligible to participate . Cup winners for the second time after 1945 was the team of Puebla FC .

mode

The tournament was played in the preliminary round with two groups, each consisting of six teams and all of which competed against each other in one home and one away game. The best four teams (winner and runner-up from both groups) qualified for the semi-finals, in which the group winner from one group met the runner-up from the other group. In the end, both group winners reached the final, which was held at the Estadio Olímpico Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City .

Preliminary round

The preliminary round matches were played between February 15 and May 14, 1953.

1 Because Guadalajara and Tampico had the same number of points and the goal difference was not used, a playoff had to be played to determine the fourth participant in the semi-finals. This took place in the Estadio La Martinica of León and was won 3-2 by Guadalajara.

Semifinals

The first legs were on 17./18. May, the second leg played on May 24, 1953. Because Guadalajara and Puebla each won a game and the goal difference was not taken into account, a separate playoff was held to determine the second finalist. This was held on May 27, 1953 in the Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes in Mexico City .

1 After Guadalajara had lost their home game 1-0 and then won 4-1 in Puebla, a play-off was necessary - because the goal difference was not taken into account - Puebla FC won 1 with 1 through the goal scored by Guadalupe Velázquez in the 87th minute : 0 won.
