Edwin Cubero

Edwin Cubero (born February 11, 1924 in Belén , Costa Rica , † March 8, 2000 in Guadalajara , Mexico ) was a Costa Rican football player on the position of a striker .

career

In his native Costa Rica, Cubero played for the clubs CS Herediano , Juan Bosco and Libertad before he was signed by the Mexican club Atlas Guadalajara in 1948 , with whom he won the Mexican football championship in 1951 for the only time in the club's history . On the last match day of the 1950/51 season , Cubero converted a penalty in a Clásico Tapatío against city rivals Chivas to the 1-0 victory of his Rojinegros , which secured the championship title from the closest rival Atlante . After his time at Atlas, Cubero played briefly for Puebla FC and returned to Guadalajara after completing his active career, where he now had the center of his life. On March 8, 2000, Cubero died of complications from kidney failure .
