General

history

CS Herediano is one of the oldest clubs in Costa Rica. As early as 1918, Heredia was considering setting up a football club to represent the province. Eventually three municipal associations merged: Club Sport Renacimiento, Club Sport Juan J. Flores and Club Sport Cristóbal Colón. These founded CS Herediano and on June 12, 1921 this union was official. Footballers from the very beginning were José Joaquín "Toquita" Gutiérrez, Eladio Rosabal Cordero, Víctor Manuel Ruiz, Gilberto and Claudio Arguedas and Luis Valerio, who were all born in Heridia. One of the first organizational problems was to find a suitable place, which quickly succeeded. After corresponding pressure on the Costa Rican government by the club, the Primera División de Costa Rica , the top division in the country, was set up in the same year . There the CSH made its claims to one of the most successful clubs in Costa Rica early on. After the end of the first season, the championship was won and this title was defended in the following year. In 1923, the club withdrew from the championship after the first game of the season and was not rated. The CS Cartaginés had to be given priority, a year later the championship was brought back to Heredia.

In 1925 the club played their first international game. At that time they made a six-game tour to Jamaica , where they could win four games and reach a draw. Between 1930 and 1935 the club dominated the national league and secured five of six possible titles. A historic event came in 1932 when they defeated the then national team of Argentina 3-1 in front of a home crowd . In the following years and decades, however, the other national football teams caught up and so the teams from LD Alajuelense , CS La Libertad and Deportivo Saprissa became great competitors in the race for the title. Until 1961 they could still win seven titles, but then had to wait a long time for another triumph. Between 1962 and 1977 LD Alajuelense and Deportivo Saprissa made the titles among themselves. It wasn't until 1978 that Herediano made it back to first place. The joy was even greater when the title could be defended. In 1993 there was initially the last triumph in the championship.

After 19 long years of waiting, the club managed to bring the Verano 2012 championship back to Heredia after several runners-up. A year later, in the Verano 2013, Heredia was able to achieve the championship title again, as in the Verano 2015 after a two-year lean period. In Verano 2016, Heredia was able to win the 25th championship title in the club's history.

mascot

At every home game, the Tiger TIM stands on the sidelines to support the team . This is the club's mascot .

The club has had a mascot since the 1980s. At first it was a hurricane that supported the team, later a bear named Pirro . The Tiger TIM was finally introduced at the end of the 1990s and the beginning of the 21st century . At first a little boring and intended more for children, TIM underwent a redesign in 2008 and was re-presented on November 21, 2008. From now on he is the leader of the Tiger team and should inspire fans and supporters even more than before. The name of the tiger is pronounced like the English word team and is intended to indicate its bond with the team.
